Questions
What is the maximum IB score?
45 points. Six subjects are graded from 1 to 7, for up to 42 points, and Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay together add up to 3 more.
What score do you need to pass the IB Diploma?
At least 24 points, as long as none of the failing conditions apply and CAS is complete.
How do TOK and the Extended Essay add points?
Each is graded from A to E. The two grades combine in the matrix above to give 0 to 3 points. An E in either one means the Diploma is not awarded.
Can you get 24 points and still fail?
Yes. A grade 1 in any subject, too many low grades, or too few points at HL or SL can all stop the Diploma being awarded, even with 24 points or more.
Do all my subjects count equally?
Yes. HL and SL subjects are each worth up to 7 points. The levels only matter for the minimum HL and SL points needed for the Diploma.
